WHO launches independent foundation

WHO announced the launch of its new foundation—a legally separate entity that will support the organization and its implementing partners to deliver on the “triple billion” goals—on May 27.

According to a press release, the WHO Foundation will raise money from nontraditional sources, including individual major donors, corporate partners and the general public in order to broaden its donor base and increase "both the quantity and quality of funds at its disposal.”

WHO’s funding has gained unprecedented scrutiny recently, following the U.S. government’s suspension of funding to the UN health agency on April 14.
